General Member Volunteers Print E-mail

All members of So. Nye County Search and Rescue must first become a General SAR member before advancing to become a member of other SAR Specialty Teams. With the completion of training in Personal Safety, First Aid, Map and Compass Skills, GPS, Fundamentals of Tracking, and FEMA IS100, IS200 & IS700 a new member becomes a General Member who is operationally ready for search missions.  This takes approximately 6-12 months depending on the applicant’s time availability for studying, skill development and background of an applicant.

The Southern Nye County Sheriff's Office sponsors most of the trainings offered to the General Members. Other trainings include First Aid, Search and Rescue Operations, FEMA I.S. Certifications, and Low Angle Rescue. Practical training and practice with unit ATVs, trailers and vehicles is also sponsored by the Sheriff's Office.
